Frequently asked questions
Short, honest answers. For step-by-step instructions see the Help page.
Getting started
Which languages can I learn?
Full courses in English and German (A1–C1); Norwegian growing level by level; first lessons in Spanish; picture album in 37 languages; tools and AI practice in 54.
The Course map, the Translator, Make a text, Speaking, Writing and the other AI tools work in all 54 languages. Lesson courses exist only where the statement says so.
Do I need an account?
As a guest you can read one text at your level for free, with no sign-up. Everything else — lessons, saved words, your streak and the AI tools — needs a free account. Sign up with an email address and password or with Google.
Can the site be in my own language?
The interface comes in 12 languages: English, Persian, French, Norwegian, Portuguese, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Turkish and Ukrainian. Change it under Settings. Persian speakers can also use fa.ilexibox.com.
How do I find my level?
Open the Course map. Each level has a level test at its top; pass it to confirm the level and open the next one. A level above yours opens as a preview until you pass the test before it. Every page shows one level line, for example “B1 · 4% toward B2”.
Lessons and levels
What is in a lesson?
Dialogues, readings and exercises, with audio, taken step by step. Turn on Word meanings and tap any word to see what it means; a word you tap is saved to My words. Each lesson also has Search this course, Start over and Report a problem.
What is the difference between Course and Lessons?
Lessons is the list of full lessons for your language. Course is the map of every level, from Beginner — starting at the alphabet — through A1 to C2: practice steps for grammar and vocabulary, a level test at the top of each level, and the lessons as steps where a lesson course exists.
How does the streak work?
A day counts when you do any graded activity. For every 7 days you practise you earn a streak freeze (you can hold 2). If you miss a day, one is used automatically and your streak continues.
Which Spanish is taught?
Latin American Spanish, without vosotros, in the lessons, the Course map and the quizzes.
Practice tools and AI uses
Which tools are there?
- Reading — Books, plus Make a text: a text at the level, length, topic, format and mood you choose.
- Listening — listening practice and dictation.
- Speaking — read aloud and get scored word by word, then take a scored Speaking quiz.
- Writing — feedback on anything you write, with your mistakes explained.
- Translator — natural translation that also fixes your mistakes, with an output level and a choice of tone.
- Letter writer — formal letters, emails and cover letters, with adjustable tone.
- AI instructions — write or improve an instruction for an AI chat or image tool.
- Games and quizzes — Topics, Spell my words and Picture spelling.
- Lexi — open-ended chat practice with an AI conversation partner.
- My words and Progress — your saved vocabulary and your skills radar.
What are free uses, and do they run out?
Every free account gets 56 free uses across five pools: Learn 10 (Make a text · Speaking · Conversation), Play 10 (Dictation · Topics · Picture spelling), Course 6, Tools 20 (Translator · Letter writer · Writing · AI instructions) and Quiz 10. Each pool refills one month after it last reset. Lessons, books and the picture album do not use them.
A subscription removes the pools. See Pricing.
Why does it say I have reached today’s AI limit?
Every account, free or paid, has a daily AI spending cap of about $1 so that one account cannot run up the AI bill. When you reach it, the AI tools pause until the next day (UTC); lessons, books and saved audio keep working. Writing’s rewrite has its own daily count: 3 on the free plan, 15 with a subscription.
An AI answer looks wrong. What do I do?
Use Report a problem under the result. It goes straight to the team, and our reply is emailed to you and shown under Me → My reports. Guests can report too; an email address is optional.
Books and album
How do the books work?
Under Reading → Books each book opens as a page-turning book, in parts. Turn on Word meanings and tap a word to see what it means — the word is saved to My words. Your place is kept, and Report a problem is there if a page is wrong.
What is Picture words?
A picture album of around 2,700 photographs on 37 shelves, each captioned in the language you are learning and spoken aloud — the full album in 37 languages. Save any word to My words, or play Picture spelling: see a picture, spell the word.
How do I save and review words?
Tap a word in a lesson, a book or a text, or press Save to my words on a picture. My words keeps them with spaced repetition and eight quiz styles, from multiple choice to listening, word order and spelling.

Privacy
What happens to the text I type into the AI tools?
It is sent to an AI provider to produce the answer. What is stored, what is sent, how long it is kept and how to delete it are set out in the Privacy policy.
Can I download my data?
Yes. Open Settings → Account and, under My data, press Download my data (JSON), or View my data as a page for a single web page you can read offline or print.
Which emails or reminders will I get?
Replies to your reports; a weekly recap every Monday if you switch it on under Me; and a daily reminder if you switch that on under Settings → Daily reminder — off by default, one short email a day at the hour you choose, in your time zone (a notification instead in the apps). Every email has an unsubscribe link.
